Laboratory Description

An ancient technique which obtained wide popularity from the start of the twentieth century, thanks to the development of photographic techniques and chemical products that facilitated the process.

The purpose of this workshop is to discover the world of silk-screening, a printing process that is applied to different materials to realize your project. Silk screening is used as the basis to create images and drawings that will then be applied through different procedures. The printing technique consists in preparing a screen or frame with a well stretched fabric in which we will shape a design by applying a varnish that blocks the area of the fabric without any image. We will then pass the colour through the frame to print the design on a larger number of garments or articles.

Different techniques and parameters will be used, as necessary for each particular project. This course challenges students to solve problems related to the creative application of images in a predetermined format and encourages them to create images in response to specific project needs. The objective of this course will therefore be to help students understand the silk-screening process and learn how to create series of prints that work together. These courses are designed with the aim of deepening the understanding of printing through the technique of silk-screening, thus obtaining the necessary skills. You will learn how to draw your own collection, how to make your own colour chart and models through drawings and photography. You will work and learn about the different natural fibres, linen, silk, cotton and its different weights, finishes and weaves.

Participants will acquire the necessary knowledge for the realization of printed materials from the start to possible market expansion, obtaining results that only manual skill can achieve.

You will develop a workbook during the entire process including your projects, photographic images, drawings and applications that you have made yourself so you can present a professional portfolio.
At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate and diploma that will guarantee your knowledge and level attained.
