Fabrics and textiles play an extremely important role in human history. They can symbolize status, power and wealth but at the same time also a variety of emotions and spiritual qualities. They have a key element in the development of compositions of the greatest masterpieces throughout the history of art, starting from the ancient Greeks to the modern day.
In this practical course, we delve deep into drawing and painting drapery with the aim of building the necessary skills and understanding to reproduce, style and design compositions that include fabrics (garments, veils, curtains etc.).
Through observational drawing and learning about the physics and plastics of draperies, students will start building their artistic vocabulary: curves, volumes, textures, tones, etc. This vocabulary will be enriched by studying great examples from the past. Participants will learn about the role of drapery in composition, psychological impact of shapes and colours, drapery and human anatomy, designing drapery vs painting from life, different stylistic approaches, etc.
